Buffy and Faith leave the hospital where Faith has been visiting the comatose Aiden, on their way to lead the team rescuing Angel from the clutches of Wolfram and Hart. In the meantime, Wolfram and Hart, tipped off to the rescue attempt, prepare to move Angel.

Act One

Connor follows the orderlies with Angel's gurney up to the roof of the hospital. There, he witnesses Drusilla kill the orderlies. As she is about to attack Jason Guelph, Connor stuns her, then takes her and Angel to the helicopter, where he coerces the pilot to fly them to the Slayer Council Office building instead.

The Slayers meet him there and lock Drusilla in a cage in their training room. Angel is placed in the library to await transport to shaman healers, and Rona sends the pilot to a secret location to escape the wrath of Wolfram and Hart.

In a flashback, we see the first time Drusilla met the Master, and learned of his apocalyptic plans to bring back the Old Ones.

Meanwhile, Illyria's acolyte K'shan takes her to an aging masoleum, the last known location of an ancient artifact from the demon era, the Stone of Skol, which will prove to the Gathering that she is an Old One. They discover the stone was recently there, then taken.

Act Two

The Slayers-in-training, including the impulsive Mary, gather in the training room to view and guard Drusilla. Faith warns them not to interact with her.

Gunn tells Connor that all his bad luck is no coincidence--someone is definitely trying to destroy his life. Connor has a good idea who that is, and give Gunn two names to research--Ronald Da Silva and Melanie Roth. The two men join the Slayers to interrogate Drusilla.

Drusilla tells them that Wolfram and Hart are desperate to find Tammy Pitts in order to defend themselves against a coming enemy "king." After the interrogation, Faith admits to Gunn she has been giving him the cold shoulder after Gunn contacted Buffy, and not her, to plan Angel's rescue. The younger Slayers debate the treatment of Drusilla and what is to be done with her. Mary favors her demise. Rona reminds her it's not up to them.

At the headquarters of the Enash Cabal, the anti-demon group discusses what to do now that they know Illyria walks the Earth. They agree that their best hope is an alliance with the Slayers.

Act Three

Angel inform Buffy and Faith that Wolfram and Hart fear the Old Ones, who ruled the world before humans. And from the sounds of things, Drusilla is trying to thwart Wolfram and Hart's plans to defend themselves against some immenent threat by the Old Ones by killing Tammy Pitts. He tells them Drusilla has long been in the thrall of a demon apocalypse of the type Wolfram and Hart would just as soon avoid.

Faith and Connor see Buffy and Angel off as they leave for Brazil.

Connor heads down to Long Beach, where he tracks down Alix. He asks her about Drusilla's plans, but she knows very little. Exhausted from days without rest, Connor falls asleep in her apartment. 

Ferrar seeks out the kid who leads the more radical side of the Enash Cabal, concerned about the Slayer alliance. They agree they won't sign on to an alliance with the Slayers until the Slayers' own demon allies are eliminated.

Act Four

After the Slayer team feeds Drusilla, Rona calls Mary on her continuing bad attitude. Meanwhile, Kristin prepares to head to the hospital to see Aiden, who has finally woken up. Rona is called into the office, leaving Mary alone with Drusilla. Drusilla hypnotizes Mary and tricks her into unlocking the cage. Drusilla escapes, taking a moment to steal some things from the library.

Faith visits Aiden in the hospital. She learns he has some physical disabilities from his head injury. She is catching him up on what he's missed when Rona calls to inform her Drusilla has escaped. Faith returns to the Slayer Council office to learn the worst of it--Drusilla killed Kristin. Faith calls in all the Slayers, including Mary, and swears to train them properly so this will not happen again, and they will be prepared to face the Gathering.

Drusilla returns to Alix's apartment, but doesn't go in. Connor is still there. He awakens on Alix's bed to find Alix gone. Unharmed despite spending the day in a vampire's bed, he leaves. 

Illyria returns to Gathering headquarters where she takes possession of the Stone of Skol. It beams powerfully in her hand, revealing her true identity. The demons of the Gathering welcome her as their leader. She swears to bring back the demons from hell and assume her original form.

Faith is greeted by a demon in the parking lot of her apartment complex. He gives her a copy of the Nyazian Scroll, a gift from the Nyazians she helped send home.
