Maelstrom

Episode 2.12

Teaser

Alix finds the son of Angel and Darla in Angel's old apartment. Still reeling from the explosion at his father's garage and the burning attack on Angel afterwards, Connor chases her off.

Act One

Faith returns to the Slayer Council suite, where she meets a new scholar, Ferrar, who has joined the team doing the inventory of the Syndicate Library.

Connor returns to his father's garage. Gunn tells him he is investigating the sudden revival of the charges against Connor, and warns Connor that Angel cannot be left in the hands of Wolfram and Hart.

Act Two

Illyria goes to a demon scholar, K'shan, to get information about the Anunnaki. He shows her the history of the Earth after she was buried in the Deeper Well. The foolish actions of the Anunnaki contributed to the rise of human beings and the demise of demon ascendancy. In revenge, the Old Ones condemned the Anunnaki to a hell where they were powerless. They have only one hope of escape--the corruption of mankind. K'shan then tells Illyria about a group dedicated to bringing the Old Ones back, the Gathering. However, when Illyria approaches the Gathering, they do not believe she is who she claims to be.

Connor visits an unconscious Aiden in the hospital and decides the best way to find out who attacked his friends and father is to investigate the Anunnaki, the group he suspects was behind the burning death of Julia Moore.

Act Three

Connor tells his girlfriend Tracy he will be out of touch for a while. She drops him off at Club Sekhmet, where Connor runs into Drusilla. Alix stops him from killing her by convincing him that if Connor wants to use the resources of Sekhmet to investigate the Anunnaki, he needs the credibility his association with Drusilla can give him.

Faith, Rona, and Kristin go to see Tammy Pitts, the psychic woman the Senior Partners want as their new Conduit. Angel has asked the Slayers to protect Tammy from discovery and capture by the Partners. Tammy explains that the Senior Partners don't want the end of the world like other demons; they seek to use and control the human world as it is.

The Partners' plans are a topic of interest to Willis, who tries to weedle them out of Holland Manners during a game of chess. The Senior Partners and the Anunnaki are both bad guys, but don't appear to be allies.

Act Four

We catch up with Willis later at his home base, where he leads a vast group of minions of the Anunnaki whose purpose is the large-scale corruption of mankind. And they seem to be succeeding, because the time for Anunnaki to break the curse on themselves seems nigh. Is the corruption of Connor Reilly a key to this success? Willis takes an interest in the fact that Connor is at Sekhmet, seeking a cure for his father's burns. An agent of the Anunnaki introduces Connor to Da Silva.

Before Connor cuts a deal with Da Silva, he goes outside to dismiss Professor Roth, who has arrived to give him a ride home. Alix sees this and informs Connor that Professor Roth was involved in the theft at Angel's garage, and is a "friend" of Da Silva's. She believes Connor has been set up to do what he is about to do.

Convinced by this that the Anunnaki are the key to his recent misfortunes, Connor decides to go through with his meeting with Da Silva.
